love this routine! I also love that you included a chemical exfoliate in there- that's the biggest mistake clients have with adding retinol, if you don't wipe away those dead skin cell turnover then its a recipe for flakiness!

Hey! So I have a quick q. I’m 21, have combo but mainly oily, acne prone skin. I’ve had acne forever and even though it’s better now it’s still a struggle. I’ve been using the ordinary retinol but I’m ab to run out so I’m wondering if I should consult a derm (like you mentioned) or if I’m just like too young to be doing that and should just keep on with the ordinary retinol. I’ve never been to a derm and I’m a bit nervous tbh, but I see how it makes sense, I’m just wondering if I should wait a few years. I feel like I trust your recs over anyone else so thank you sm!

Hi Natalie! No, definitely don’t think you’re too young. Teens who struggle with acne start tret or adapalene all the time. I understand being nervous about seeing the derm, but don’t be. Focus on finding a derm through zocdoc or friends/family who focus on skin health and conditions first and aesthetic/medspa stuff second. Be ready to tell them what your skin is like and what you want to achieve. Trust me, they’ve seen it all before. And if you don’t like them, you can always find someone else in the future.

If you’re not ready, you could also try OTC Differin on La Roche Posay’s OTC adapalene. Don’t know how they compare to the Ordinary, but I trust both brands more on principle. Let me know how it goes!
