As we’ve already established, it is basically too hot to do anything right now. Too hot to even be writing this newsletter! So I will keep it short and sweet this week with a few updates and a question.
First update: When I told you I nailed the makeup base last spring, I didn’t lie. Despite the heat, I’ve felt my complexion could use some support, so I’ve been engaging in some very light-touch makeup, and it’s holding up! And not looking the least bit phony!
Details are below (instead of Flawless Filter, I’ve been mixing my skin tint with some Glossier Priming Moisturizer Balance for some oil-control support and finishing it off with Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray). With some sweat from the day, I end up glowy, not greasy.
Second update: I’ve more or less given up trying to keep my hairline frizz-free. Instead, I perch a black Scunci headband at the very tippy top of my forehead and call it Totême. Instant hairstyle.
And now the question: Are you exfoliating your eyebrows?! There could be flakes hiding in there, threatening to ruin your makeup! It happened to me!
This video of Kristie Streicher confirmed: I should be physically exfoliating my brows with a dedicated spoolie! My brow area is one of my more acneic regions, so they already get some help from my retinol and chemical exfoliators, but it’s not enough. Now, before I Boy Brow, I take the spoolie end of my Sephora Collection Brow Brush #20 (very good brushes across the board, highly recommend) and comb my brows back and forth until I’m sufficiently convinced there are no more flakes threatening to get tangled up in my tint. It has a meditative quality to it.
Hit me up if you knew this already and were rudely keeping it from me! Stay cool in the meantime!
